Launch owner testifies of meeting Scott Watson
Around 100 boat owners had their boats moored in the Marlborough Sounds on New Year’s Eve 1997. The Crown is putting forward testimony of these boaties and others at Ferneaux Lodge regarding their movements around this time and whether they offered sleeping berths to any other people.
A witness, Murray John Knowles of Christchurch, testified that he met Scott Watson on the night before Ben and Olivia disappeared. He had recognized Watson as the man he had spoken with when he saw a picture of him on television.
His wife and another woman were talking to Watson in the crowded bar at Ferneaux Lodge, when he joined them. He said that Watson was tidy in appearance, clean-shaven and did not act in an offensive way or appear to be intoxicated.

Justice Heron said that significant progress had been made in the trial and sent the jury home. The case will continue on Monday with more testimony from the boat owners.
