Watson sentence welcomed by campaigner
The judge in the Scott Watson murder trial has been praised by the man who's spearheading the referendum on tougher sentences for violent criminals.
Norm Withers of Christchurch has been calling for more severe penalties, since his mother was violently beaten and left for dead.

He says the 17 year minimum non-parole period handed down to Scott Watson, is realistic.

Mr Withers says he's encouraged by the ruling, which he says is a step in the right direction.
