Historical Parole Outcomes
Parole Outcomes - Expected and Statistics
Expected outcomes
Release on parole is only granted after the Parole Board has made a thorough examination of an offender's case.
Most offenders make several appearances before the Board before it is satisfied that the best available arrangements have been made for the offender's release into the community.
Although the Parole Board considers each case on its own merits, it prefers that offenders make a staged return to the community. Offenders most likely to be granted parole are in minimum security prisons, have had a number of temporary releases and have firm arrangements for where they will live and work after their release.
It is unusual for the Parole Board to grant a release date after considering a case for the first time. The table below sets out the outcomes in parole cases in recent years.
